Press Update: GUSA Celebrates Launch of Georgetown App, IdeaScale

GUSA President Mike Meaney and Vice President Greg Laverriere voiced their approval over the coming launch of the Georgetown mobile application, which is now available for use on smart phones. Features of the application could eventually include a laundry tracker for students using university laundry facilities, a SafeRides van tracker, the Georgetown directory, and campus news headlines. Members of the GUSA Executive worked with the office of university Chief Operating Officer Chris Augostini throughout the development process and will continue to weigh in as the university releases components of the application.

“We’ve put a lot of time into meetings with the office of the COO and UIS, and we’re thankful that they were so willing to work with us,” said GUSA President Mike Meaney. “This is a great example of coordination between students and administrators that should serve as a model for the future.”

The administration also announced plans to release the Georgetown IdeaScale next week. The IdeaScale is an online platform that allows students to submit suggestions for university improvements and comment on others’ ideas. Meaney and Laverriere campaigned on a variation of this idea during last year’s election and are again pleased to see constructive cooperation between the university and the student body.

The application and IdeaScale launches were announced at the latest Hoya Roundtables event, held on Wednesday, February 15 in Leo O’Donovan Hall. Newly appointed Chief Information Officer Lisa Davis will oversee the implementation of both programs. GUSA is pleased to welcome Mrs. Davis to Georgetown and looks forward to working with her in the coming months.
