Code of Conduct Update: Members of GUSA met with the Disciplinary Review Committee (DRC) again this past week, and negotiations over the Code of Conduct produced changes on five of the twelve areas targeted in earlier drafts. Substantive changes include clauses allowing pauses in disciplinary hearings so that students may confer with advisors and making explicit students’ rights to an advisor during all code of conduct meetings, including administrative conduct hearings and Off-Campus Student Life conduct meetings. GUSA’s representatives on the DRC, Student Body President Mike Meaney and Student Advocacy Office Co-Director James Pickens, have terms that extend until the end of the academic year and will continue to work to produce changes.
On a related note, a draft of a GUSA-produced informational pamphlet on student rights, responsibilities, and general information will be finalized in the coming weeks. The pamphlets will then be distributed to the student body in order to better inform students of important regulations and resources available to navigate through them.
